Quick Modern Upgrades for your Home Design
Who wouldn’t like a quick modern upgrade to their home? Having a modern yet cozy home is a desire of many. Introducing modern art, a splash of colour, adding accents to your space, or maybe just decluttering is all you need to give your home a fresh new spirit.
So, if you want to give an upgrade to your home without much fuss then check out these simple trends I have curated for you.
The metallic touch
Metallic finishes like gold and copper, are the best fits for that modern touch. Gold finish creates dramatic contrasts when combined with striking jewel tones like emerald green, turquoise/sapphire blue and ruby red. Copper pairs very well with most of the neutral tones, woods and modern art.

Contemporary art with metallic accents, copper framed mirrors, modern metallic sculptures, metal bowls, metal candle stands, sleek chandeliers are all great ways to give that modern glow to your home. You can also swap out the boring steel faucets and fixtures in your kitchen and bath with coloured stainless steel in gold and copper.
Introduce Bright accents
Modern homes with a neutral colour palette can gain personality by adding splashes of colour here and there. Accent colours can be used sparingly in the furnishings, it is really a smart way to give a bold look to your home design. It is simple and fun and can be incorporated using pillows/cushions, throws, rugs, dinnerware, tablecloths, bedding and artworks.

Or you can just add a piece of contemporary accent chair in the corner of your living room, put a small coffee table next to it, stack some books and VOILA !! Real makeover. Less fuss !!
Just make sure not to over do the colours, else it will take away the charm of the neutral colour scheme.

Put a moroccan rug or a brass sculpture in a complete modern living room setting, add big transparent vases on that coffee table or simply hang a swing in your bedroom instead of a plain coffee chair-table arrangement. The possibilities are many, it all leads up to your imagination. Creating unexpected moments – this really is my favourite part !!
Paint the baseboards

One of the easiest ways to upgrade any area in the house is to have a uniform colour on the whole wall. Using same colour for the skirting and wall creates uniformity, an important aspect of modern design.
It is advised to use shades of white for the urbane feel. If you want to break the monotony it is strictly advised to paint ONLY ONE of the walls differently.
Declutter
Not so surprisingly, we all know that a clean uncluttered home is a must to make your home look elegant. All you need to do is get rid of the stuffs that you have been collecting for years but never intend to use.

The simple mantra is – less to own, less to organise, less mess, less to clean, less stress and more energy. So go ahead and invest the saved energy in planning the next organised upgrade for your home.
Some more quick upgrades –
- Try to avoid printed, dark coloured curtains instead use sheer curtains in light colour.
- Incorporate a freestanding bar unit and stools with a sleek design for that urbane feel.
- Display few of your cutlery and dinnerware on floating shelves stacked upon one another.
- Simply give your traditional furniture a modern upholstery for a fresh look.
